GOD HAS SPOKEN

Hebrews 1:1-2 reads, “God who, in many parts and in many ways, spoke in times past to the
fathers by the prophets, has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom
He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds.”
The writer of Hebrews, in poetic grandeur and
eloquence, exposes his audience to the wonderful truth: God has spoken. God has spoken in ages past. The instruments of His speech were the
prophets. God, Himself, had not spoken
with His voice, but He spoke through the prophets as He so moved them (2 Pet.
1:21). However, in these last days God
speaks to us by His son. In other
words, God has manifested Himself in the Son.
The Son is God housed in human flesh.
It is from such a humbled state that God speaks to man today. When the Son speaks, God Himself is
speaking; for the Son is God. “But to the
Son he says, your throne, 0 God, is forever and ever” (Heb. 1:8)
As God, the Son speaks. His word is final in as much as He speaks in
these last days. The writer of Hebrews
is arguing for the superiority of the Son over all messengers of the past. He concludes His argument with an
exhortation to his audience, “Therefore
we must give the more earnest heed to what we heard, lest we drift away” (Heb.
2:1).
God has spoken and all that seek to
do His will must hear the Son. His word
is final and will ultimately judge us in the last day (John 12:48). Therefore you must, “See that you refuse not him who speaks. For if they did not
escape who refused Him who spoke on earth, much more shall we not escape if we
turn away from Him who speaks from heaven” (Heb. 12:25).
